Welwyn Garden City is currently host to the amazing, Knife Angel. A national monument designed and created by Alfie Bradley, it is crafted from more than 100,000 knives and blades confiscated by the police across the country. Some knives have been signed by victim's families. The aim of the amazing sculpture is 'to raise awareness about the consequences of knife crime and violence and to spark conversations about the need for social change and peace', and it is 'an opportunity to remember all those who have fallen victim to knife crime and violence'. It is a spectacular piece of art and very thought-provoking.
The Knife Angel can be seen outside The Howard Centre for the rest of October (concluding on 30th October). It is well worth a visit and would make a great talking point during half-term!

To mark the occasion, the Police & Crime Commissioner for Hertfordshire is running an art competition for young people under 25.
The Mayor of Harpenden's Christmas Card Design Competition has launched!
Children aged 4-11 are invited to design a Christmas card for the Harpenden Town Mayor. The winner will have their design used for the Mayor's official Christmas Card and will be invited to turn on the Town Christmas lights at the Christmas Carnival!
Cards should be designed on A4 paper, with name, age and school on the back.
Please deliver or post to: The Mayor's Secretary, Harpenden Town Council, Town Hall, Leyton Road, AL5 2LX by Friday 7th November 2025.
